The first purple-leaved vine maple is a colorful alternative to the familiar native. New growth emerges with a bronze tint over green then intensifies to deep purple in summer as the foliage matures. Colors best when planted in full sun. Purple winged samaras accent the purple foliage, which holds its color through the heat of the summer and into fall. Autumn leaves are orange-bronze. Matures to a height and width of 12 feet.

Stable, vivid red and green-colored flax that is a vigorous grower. Up to 4 feet tall by 3 feet wide with an upright to weeping form. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers partial shade in hot, dry inland areas. Feed twice yearly with slow release fertilizer.

Plumes of pinkish-purple flowers are extremely long lasting and have a long bloom season (year round in mild climates). Grows to 12-18 inches tall and wide in full sun. Low water requirements make this a good choice for xeriscapes and containers.
